Electrical repair & fault finding in Irvine for tripping circuits, dead sockets and flickering lights. We trace the cause with proper testing, explain it in plain words and fix it, with no call-out charge.
A trip switch that won't stay up, a socket or light that has stopped working, lights that flicker or dim, a buzzing noise from a switch, or a plug that gets hot. Each one points to a different kind of problem, so it's worth noting when it happens and what was switched on.
Swapping parts until something works can waste time and money, and it can leave the real fault in place. We use insulation resistance and continuity tests to narrow the problem down to one circuit, then to the cable, accessory or appliance that is causing it.
A faulty kettle, washing machine or outdoor light can trip an RCD and make it look like a wiring fault. Unplugging everything and switching items back on one at a time is a useful first check, and it's the same approach we take when we arrive.
Before we visit, we ask what's been happening, when it started and whether anything has changed, such as new appliances or building work. On arrival we look at the consumer unit, check which circuits are affected and run tests to find where the fault sits.
Once it's found, we show you what's wrong and give you a price for the repair. Most faults are fixed on the same visit. If something bigger turns up, like damaged cables inside a wall, we explain your options before doing any more work.
Tell us what the problem is or what you'd like done. We aim to respond the same day.

We carry out the work, test everything we've worked on and leave you the right certificate for the job.
An RCD trips when it detects electricity leaking to earth, which can come from a faulty appliance, water in an outdoor fitting, a damaged cable or a nail through a wire. Unplug everything on the affected circuit and reset it. If it still trips, call us to test it.
Most faults are found within an hour or two. Faults that come and go, such as a trip that only happens when it rains, can take longer because the conditions have to be right for the fault to show itself. We keep you updated as the testing goes on.
It's best not to. A trip switch is doing its job by cutting the power when something's wrong, and resetting it again and again can make a fault worse or cause heat damage. Reset it once, and if it trips again, leave it off and call an electrician.
Not always. A cheap LED bulb or a dimmer that isn't suited to LEDs can make lights flicker. If the flickering affects several rooms, comes with buzzing or happens when heavy appliances switch on, there may be a loose connection, which needs checking before it overheats.
