Garden room & outbuilding electrics in Irvine for home offices, workshops, garages and sheds. We run a safe armoured supply from the house, fit the sockets and lights you need, and test and certify it.
The supply usually comes from your consumer unit through armoured cable, buried in a trench or clipped along a wall or fence. Buried cable needs to be deep enough to avoid garden tools and marked with warning tape, so anyone digging later knows it's there.
Most garden rooms and workshops have their own small consumer unit, so lighting, sockets and heating are on separate circuits with RCD protection. Depending on the earthing at the house, the outbuilding may also need its own earth rod driven into the ground.
A home office with a heater, a workshop with power tools or a hot tub nearby all need more power than a few sockets. We size the cable for what you plan to run now and later, because upgrading a buried cable means digging it all up again.
We look at where the building sits, the best route for the cable and what you want to use inside it. We check your house consumer unit can supply it, then give you a free quote. If a trench is needed, we agree who digs it, as some customers prefer to do that themselves.
Once the cable is in, we fit the outbuilding's board, sockets, lighting and any outside lights, then test the supply and every circuit. You receive an Electrical Installation Certificate, and we show you where the cable runs so it isn't damaged in future.
Tell us what the problem is or what you'd like done. We aim to respond the same day.
We look at the job and give you a free quote, with no obligation and no call-out charge.
We carry out the work, test everything we've worked on and leave you the right certificate for the job.
Not as a permanent setup. Extension leads aren't designed to be left outside, can be damaged by doors and weather, and are easy to overload. A proper armoured supply with its own protection is safer and gives you reliable power for lights, sockets and heating.
The wiring regulations don't set one fixed depth, but cable should be buried deep enough that digging and garden tools won't reach it, often around half a metre or more, with warning tape above it. Under driveways it may need extra protection.
Yes, as long as the supply is sized for it. Heaters, kettles and computers together can draw a lot of power, so we plan the cable and circuits around everything you'll use. Insulating the building well also makes it cheaper and easier to heat.
Yes. Detached garages and workshops often need more sockets, good lighting and sometimes supplies for heavier tools. We plan the circuits for how you'll use the space and can add outside lighting or a supply for an EV charger at the same time.
