EV charger installation in Irvine for homes and businesses, from the first survey to a tested, certified charger on the wall. We check your supply and earthing first, and the quote is free.
Before quoting, we look at your incoming supply, main fuse, consumer unit and earthing, and measure the route from the board to where the car parks. These decide whether the charger can go straight in or whether the supply or board needs work first.
Most UK homes have a PME earth, which needs extra protection for an outdoor charger. Many modern chargers include this protection built in, while others need an earth rod. Getting the earthing right matters, because the car body is touched every time you plug in.
The charger you choose, the distance from the consumer unit, how the cable is run, whether a new board or earth rod is needed and where the charger is mounted all affect the cost. A wall beside the board is the simplest job; a post at the end of a long drive takes more work.
After the survey, we recommend a charger that suits your car, parking and supply, and agree the mounting point and cable route with you. Your free quote covers the charger, fitting, any board or earthing work, and notifying the network operator.
On the day, the power is off for part of the job. We mount the charger, run and protect the cable, connect it to its own circuit and test it. We then set the charger up, check it charges properly and leave you with the certificate.
Tell us what the problem is or what you'd like done. We aim to respond the same day.
We look at the job and give you a free quote, with no obligation and no call-out charge.
We carry out the work, test everything we've worked on and leave you the right certificate for the job.
For most homes with off-street parking, a wall-mounted charger counts as permitted development, so planning permission isn't usually needed. Listed buildings and flats can be different. The installer also has to notify the network operator, which we handle as part of the job.
Yes. If you park away from the house, the charger can go on a post or a garage wall, with the cable run underground or along a wall. Longer runs need thicker cable to limit voltage drop, which adds to the cost, so we measure it during the survey.
Most homes can take a 7kW charger, sometimes with load management so the charger slows down when the rest of the house is busy. If the main fuse is too small, the network operator may need to upgrade it. We check this at the survey and explain the options.
Yes. Every new charger has to be notified to the local network operator, which in Ayrshire is SP Energy Networks. For most home chargers this is done after installation, while larger loads may need approval first. We deal with the paperwork for you.
